Caregivers Providing Special Needs for Yorba Linda Residents

In the past 50 years, we have learned so much about mental illnesses and the obstacles that they experience. With Autism, for example, communication is very difficult and it may cause for tension on social and familial situations. Not only that, but the inability to communicate properly often results in frustration and lashing out. With other diseases, like Down Syndrome, the diagnosed person lacks the ability to learn at the same pace as the average person. This too can cause unintended feelings of anger and resentment from family caregivers.

Needless to say, a lot of patience is required when dealing with these kinds of patients and as a professional caregiver agency, patience is exactly what we at A-1 Home Care promise. Our Special Needs caregivers are not only compassionate, but trained with 2 years of previous caregiving experience. No matter the situation, be it one that needs Incontinence Care or one that needs Respite Care, they are trained to handle anything.

Arts & Crafts Day at Downey Community Center

When you're stuck in a hospital recovering from surgery or other procedures, what's more comforting and familiar than to curl up with a good book? A-1 Home Care has its fair share of bookworms in the office, so we chose a bookmark making activity to kick off our first in a series of complementary art classes held at the Downey Care Center.

Notice the hearts? We were right in time for the upcoming Valentines Day, as many seniors noted.

Glaucoma Awareness Month/ Yorba Linda Home Care

This week, A-1 Home Care will be discussing Glaucoma, as part of National Glaucoma Awareness Month.

Glaucoma is group of eye disorders that have few symptoms in their early stages, but eventually leads to damage of the optic nerve (the bundle of nerve fibers that carries information from the eye to the brain), which can then lead to vision loss or complete blindness in older age.

It is estimated that over 4 million adult and elderly Americans have glaucoma but only half of those know they have it. Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness in the United States, and often has no symptoms. The optic nerve is the part of the eye that sends signals to the brain, allowing us to see. If the optic nerve is damaged by untreated glaucoma, this may lead to slow, painless, permanent loss of vision.
